Introduction

Educate Yourself is a campaign that encourages everyone to learn more about the menopause.

Why?

Menopause is a life transition that affects 50% of the population and can last up to 12 years

10% of women leave their jobs due to menopause*

93% of women surveyed felt they would benefit if friends and family were more informed about menopause**

3 in 4 people believe menopause is still a taboo subject**

Menopause is trivialised and made light of. It is often seen as a joke, with symptoms reduced to a dismissive ‘hot flush’ or ‘the change’. Synonymous with the invisibility of older women in societies and reduced to ‘women’s issues’, the menopause is in reality, a serious and life changing part of life. We want to change this through positive education.

Put simply, we ALL need to know more. Because with knowledge comes change.

The Campaign

Menopause shows up in unexpected ways, it’s not just hot flushes and the end of periods, there are many signs that someone is experiencing menopause.

That’s why we created the Educate Yourself campaign, which is being shown on billboards across the UK, to shed light on some of the lesser known signs of menopause.

Check out the campaign.

Menopause Stories

Educate Yourself features real people who have all gone through or are going through the menopause. The campaign represents the varied range of menopause as experienced by women of colour, younger women, disabled women, queer women and trans men.

You can read our participant’s stories here on our Menopause Stories page.

About

Educate Yourself was developed in partnership with The Menopause Charity (charity registration number: 1191332), Black Women in Menopause and Menopause Café (charity registration number: SC048435), to drive awareness of where people can find information and support for menopause.

Our campaign partners offer support for menopause and we have a selection of trusted resources if you or someone you know is experiencing menopause.

This campaign couldn’t have been created without the generosity and expertise of our collaborator, the wonderful Costumier Samantha Horn.

Special thanks also to our hair and make up artists, Sylwia and Hannah.

What a group of amazing women, thank you.
